Snow Day!

You are driving in your car

You won't get far

For the snow is too deep

The wheels are starting to creep.

Now you're stuck in the snow, no further to go, as you wait for help to arrive.

Should have stayed home, experienced some 'OM' and relaxed the day away.

Is that a limerick?

What I want to talk about today is the weather! And why living in the midwest also means that 50% of what you talk about will include some introduction about how the weather is changing our plans.

I'm here to tell you that although people complain a lot about unexpected storms, changing of plans, kids being home from school. We actually secretly love it.

Why?

Well, as we do, being human, we get busy in our lives, of work, of obligation, of focussing so heavily

on these things we spend an inordinate amount of time stressing about.

Here's what a snow storm gives us permission to do.

1. Cancel plans (that maybe we didn't really want to do anyway, i.e. work)

2. Take care of ourselves. Suddenly once the obligation is gone, we enjoy our cup of coffee a little longer, we plan an activity with our kids, we clean out the closet we've been meaning to get to for months!

3. It gives us time to take inventory. Stop and take a look around at the things that really matter to us, where we spend our time when we have all the time in the world.

4. Naps. Ok not everyone is a napper, but if you don't fit into this category, maybe you stay in your yoga pants all day, or don't bother with hair or make up, or maybe even a shower. And although all those things are nice on a standard day, something about be-ing without all that puts us in a better state of relaxation.

So in summary, I hope you are enjoying this snow day, and let go of any stressing out about the obligation you missed. Take in some relaxation and find joy today!
