Weird is wonderful

When I was in elementary school, I didn't easily fit in. In fact I was pretty painfully shy so for me to go up to someone and start a conversation was pretty rare.

My best friend in elementary often shares the story about how she moved to my home town in 3rd grade and the thing that made her decide she would want to be friends is that I wore puppy dog pigtails.

I didn't think much about that until later when I realized, I never was too much of a fashion plate in school, and I pretty much just did what I wanted too with my hair.

Which by the way I have naturally curly hair so its sort of it's own animal anyway. Let's just say I went through many stages to figure out how to get it to tame itself.

So puppy dog pigtails. I took half my hair, left the back half like it was and put pigtails right were doggie ears might be right on top of my head.

Through the years and through a great friendship of weirdness, I've learned that normal is pretty boring. Weird is way better.

Weird allows you to be funny, strange, just be in a moment vs worried or concerned about what other people think.

So fast forward about 3 decades and my 5 year old is loving her half pony braid bun. She pretty much wears this hairstyle every single day. And the other day I asked her if she wanted to try something different, and of course she didn't. And I thought, she should just do what she likes. Someday she might meet her best friend that loves that she has a unicorn horn right on top of her head.

Weird is wonderful guys. Normal is boring. Be your weird wonderful self as much as you can. And the less you worry about what other people think say or do, the better off you will be.

Art is the anti-norm. It's accepting of whatever you create. If you are looking for an outlet, painting is a wonderful medium to express your wonderful weirdness. Try it, I promise you'll love it.

So go out and be weird, be strange and let your uniqueness show. Because someone else is looking for their weird wonderful match, and you can't find them unless you dare to step into your weirdness ;).
